Mick Tucker

Michael Thomas Tucker was born July 17, 1947 in Ruislip and sadly he passed away February 14, 2002 - on valentines day.

Mick and Brian were working together in a band called "Wainwrights Gentlemen" and after that they formed Sweetshop.

Mick's excellent drumming gave Sweet's music energy and with his sticks he was able to do almost anything. He could play like nobody else and with his own style and technic, he made magic and it looked simple, but it was not. There are not many drummers today who can do what Mick did.

He was sitting there behind his massive silver Ludvig kit - like a king. And he was the king, no doubt about that.

He seemed to play the impossible, a fantastic showman twirling his drumsticks like a majorette with a baton and he had this incredible charisma on stage. He was the most underrated drummer in the world of rock
One of England's most underrated drummers ...
The Man With The Golden Arm

Today we have not seen any drummer daring to do what Mick did on stage with absoloutely no technical help. During his famous and 7 minute long drumsolo "The man with the golden arm" he played with himself - recorded and shown on the big screen.

And there are not many from the seventies who cannot remember his intro of "The Ballroom Blitz" !

In the mid-seventies Andy and Mick helped a new band called Angel - they released two singles.

In the 80's Mick and Andy did produce some records for others and they even played and sang backing vocals on a few of them.

Mick's last gig with Sweet was on 5th May 1991 in Lochau, Austria and in 1997 it was stated that Mick had leukaemia of which he died after 5 years battle. We will always remember you, Mick !
