Unheard Sweet song !

Around the time of Slow Motion Sweet or Sweetshop as they called themselves a that time did record a track called 'Too Late' which never was released. This clip is comming from an acetate of Slow Motion and is on the B-side of this only known copy to exist which is in the hands of a private collector. Frank Torpey adds: I" wrote the song and Brian and myself cobbled the lyrics together. This was my foray in to progressive Rock. We recorded the track in Regent Sound Studio's Denmark St (Tin pan Alley) I used the ubiquitous AC top 30 and a 1959 Les Paul custom. I think the studio had the equivalent of a 4 track porta studio."

What is an acetate ?

An acetate it's a heavy disc is directly cut on a record cutting lathe from the audio master source. These can be played but wear slightly with play and are quite fragile. The acetate looks like a vinyl record but has a metal plate covered in a layer of acetone. The wear on a acetate is higher than of a vinyl pressing. Today's playback styluses are tracking much lighter so the acetates of today last much longer than those of the older days. Acetates were often used as a master and then were test played before they pressed up hundereds of copy's on vinyl. Originally acetates were used for home recording in the days before the tape recorder. There exists only a few acetates of each record so they are very rare. This means that the acetate is the first testplate and many did not make it to the vinyl pressing plants.
