Michael talks
I remember in '75. I was allowed to go to my very first gig. The Sweet in Brøndby Hallen, but only if my older sister would look after me - and she would. She took a friend along and she was a Sweet maniac too. It was a great experience. I think there were about 5000 people and the crowd in front of the stage was enormous - and it was loud. I was a little scared, but I promised myself: This was not the last time. I was completely taken by Andy. He was my absolute favourite. He could do something that no one else could and he looked so cool. For some reason I didn't manage to go to the next Sweet gig one year later at the same place, which I can't understand now. I joined the danish fanclub and became one of the chosen ones, we produced fanmagazines and did everything for all the fans. I went to the next gig in Copenhagen '78 - the Level Headed Tour.  This gig was one of the best I've ever been to. What a show. Everything was perfect. For the next years I tried to find out what happened. Sweet was now a 3-piece band and I loved the new sound. Suddenly there was no more Sweet and they were forgotten, but not by me. In ´84 Brian and his band came to Copenhagen and I saw the New Sweet in a small club. It was not a very good experience. I think my expectations were much too high, but Brian was there. The best frontman from the '70. The rest were missing, something was not right. But it was nice to see Brian again and I will not say anything about the other musicians. I saw Brian again a couple of years later in Gilleleje. It was a lot better, but still something was missing. I was wondering what was Andy doing. A friend of mine had just started a recordshop and he came up with Andy's maxisingles and I was happy again. It was not Sweet, but very close. If have had known what I know today, I would have travelled a long way to see Andy and Mick's Sweet. But I did not know anyway, I don't think they did Denmark.

First time I saw Andy ....

The years went on and nobody remembered Sweet. I still did. One day on my way home from my job, I went into a new recordshop in my town - a very small one. I think it lasted for only 4 months, but that day Sweet was reborn in my life. I heard Action when I entered the shop and it was not one I know, but it sounded familiar. It was Sweet. Live at the Marquee. A brilliant powerful live album containing good old Sweet songs and some brand new ones. I couldn't believe my ears and eyes. They were back. I bought the album, the CD and the video that day and I was dancing the rest of the way home.
Michael finally meets Andy in 97
Two years later in '94 I was told, that Sweet came to Denmark. I was in the 7th heaven. I found out, that they played in Viften just 5 km from where I lived. I went there and bought a couple of tickets and couldn't wait to see them again. It was a new band I could tell from the posters, but Andy was there. When the day came I went there alone, none of my friends would come. I remember standing in the hall when Sweet had a soundcheck behind closed doors. I heard Andy playing the beginning of Sixteens and it sounded great. I found myself shaking with sweat on my back. The show opened with The Stripper like the '70. And everytime I hear that piece I'm shaking. I think it was a good gig. It was one of Chad's first gigs and they all did very well. I talked to some other fans who showed me a CD with Sweet called A. I bought it the next days and was surprised. It was actually a very fine rock album.

Michael and Andy

In '95 there was an outdoor concert with Sweet and Suzi Quatro and others. The funny thing was, that it was only 500 meters from where I lived. I couldn't believe it. At that time I have never been near the guys. But that would change. In 1997 Sweet played in Holbæk and on my way to buy tickets I drove under a bridge with a big banner saying The Sweet. It was like the old days. The gig was ok, but during the soundcheck we saw Andy arguing loudly with the local sound guy. After the gig I was lucky for my first time to come backstage. I was actually standing next to Andy talking with him and I remember I got a photo of the band which I got autographed.  I talked to the man that I have admired for twenty years and he was a great guy. Since then a lot of things had happened, but that day was special.
